The Goro Suit From Mortal Kombat

Computer generated graphics used in film lack the ability to interact on screen with actors. Because of this limitation many directors require physical effects to be created for use with the actors on set. This image is from the archives of Amalgamated Dynamics Inc., an effects company specializing in this area. Here is Tom Woodruff getting ready to go into the Goro suit. Tom provided the movement of the lower arms of Goro. The upper arms were robotic as well as the head and face. All the lip sync was done with the animatronic head. The hole thing was computer controled for smoother performance and repeatability. Movements for the head were pre-record and then played back. It required six puppeteers and four technicians to bring Goro to life.
