Yes, it was only when we came up with that idea and felt it was a fresh way to go that we said yes to the project at all.

What would have been Messerschmidt’s fate if No one wanted to buy him?
Research facilities and animal rights groups would have clamored to find/create a safe place for him. Maybe even Rhonda LeBeck would have stepped in. He’d have been fine, in any case.
How did Earl survive that stampede?
He’s a good horseman. Kept his cool and rode with the herd til they calmed down.
Am I the only one that realized Kate is the only character that never encounters a live graboid?
You may be. Though we guess the secret is now out.
Where are Val and Earl from, respectively? The new novelization gives hints to their respective backstories. What’s the official story?
While writers are supposed to know their characters in depth, we have to admit we never gave much thought to where Val and Earl met or came from. So the novel is probably the best source (and we appreciate author Christian Francis doing due diligence).
If you do a new Tremors what will you do? Will all the characters come back?
Versions of this question keep coming in. And the answer has to be the same. We don’t want to say what we’re working on. We hope it sells and gets made and you all get to see it. (July 2026)
Where exactly is Perfection? I’ve read on here it’s 250 miles north of Vegas. Would that make around the Ely, Nevada area?
For some reason we’ve always imagined it to be on the western side of the state, maybe a bit SE of Carson Lake. So, not due North of Las Vegas exactly.
If you ignore Tremors 5, 6, and 7 where do you Perfection in 2026?
We like to think the little town continues to plug along trading on its graboid notoriety. An older Jodie still runs the store. Not sure if the tours are still running, since they’d seem pretty hokey to internet-savvy tourists. One thing we ponder is that El Blanco is still living, but has become so old he needs to be hand-fed periodically, and this is a big hit with tourists. We also imagine Melvin has continued to do well and has a large out-of-place mansion on the edge of town.
What vests did Burt wear over his shirts during Tremors 2?
The specifics of wardrobe choices happen in a rush during pre-production. There are rarely records kept of brands used.
If any fans are able to help out with this one, (as they have for other Burt wardrobe) we appreciate the input!
UPDATE:
Super Burt fan Patrick has come through.
In the arrival scene Burt wears a Bugle Boy 20791R13
For the rest of the movie it’s a Domke PhoTOGs.
HOWEVER, Patrick notes the Domke is an older version. The newer re-release is different. So purists must seek out a vintage one.
Amazing details. Thanks to Patrick!
Why was the character Burt killed off? Was he just ready to be done filming?
We had no involvement in Tremors 5, 6 or 7, and have not even seen 6 or 7, so have no idea.
Did Burt ever find more evidence of the secret government lab? Other than the buried road, and the vents in the old, abandoned mine?
We assume Burt kept searching, and had hoped to expand on the lab idea, but that was for future episodes that weren’t to be.
How guarded of a secret is Mixmaster supposed to be? Is the government concerned that the townsfolk learn about it? Were there plans to have the government crack down or claim ignorance of it?
Mixmaster was a plot device we felt we needed to give us a greater range of mystery/creatures. The idea of course was that it was super secret, but the lab is abandoned and officially the government has sort of forgotten about it. Had we been able to continue the show, we certainly would have explored how the government might react when they learn the word about it is getting out locally.
In working on a future Tremors, are there new movies, shows, or books that influence are inspire you.
It may sound smug, but not really. We love Jordan Peele’s Get Out, but it doesn’t spark any Tremors ideas, if that makes sense. As we have said, we have no desire to re-make the movie with a new cast. But coming up with something fresh that still delivers is frustratingly difficult. We have three different takes, and are now expanding on our favorite. Whether Hollywood will go for it is another question.
What creatures can you use with the rights you got back?
The rights situation is complicated, and we can’t say too much about it without putting potential deals in jeopardy. We are still seeking ways, and partners, to make some sort of new Tremors but nothing concrete has developed yet (July 2026).
What ever happened to the alien crashed ship scene? Was it kept or completely erased from history?
Apparently lost. It is not in the long early draft that Christian Francis used for creating the novel which is the earliest known surviving script. But it’s possible that we never wrote it, since our crew unanimously rejected it as stupid when we pitched it at a big production meeting; and the studio backed off pushing for it.
If Burt and Heather had not set their truck alarm, and the grabiod hadn’t destroyed their truck, would the plan to get in the truck and make a run for the jeep trail have worked?
The truck would have been very crowded, but people could probably have crammed in. However tricky part would have been each stop to pick people up, where multiple graboids would attack. The truck’s tires would almost certainly get shredded, slowing it way down, and the graboids would have been able to pull it under with everyone aboard.
Did the oil company pay for the shriekers killed in Tremors 2?
No. They took the position the shriekers were not part of the original deal. Even though their refinery was destroyed, they did reluctantly pay for the graboids. So Earl and Grady still made out pretty well financially.
How many shriekers died in the T2 refinery explosion. Also, how many did But kill with the turret gun in T3
Sorry. We did not count.
I understand Kevin Bacon was a bit difficult to work with during the production due to his attitude towards the film. Could you expand on the subject a little?
This is a myth. Kevin was amazingly hard working, professional, and great fun to work with throughout the shoot. Only after the film was released, and did not do well, did we learn he felt it’d been a mistake to do it. For some years he made jokes about it on talk shows, but has now come to realize its a true cult classic and Val is really one of his best roles.
Since you got the rights back to the original script for Tremors, does that mean you well get them back for Tremors 2, 3, and 4?
No. We wrote the original script on “spec,” (without being paid by anyone) so we owned all the rights when we first sold it, including the U.S. rights that came back to us after a certain amount of time (due to of U.S. copyright laws) The others scripts were written “for hire,” paid for by the studio. In that case, the studio gets all rights forever.
Burt always seems to be very against the idea of capturing and researching the various graboid life forms. Yet he often finds himself blind-sided by their unique and unexpected changes in behavior. Seems like he’d be more open to learning about them.
The TV series kind of unfairly slants Burt in that way. For example he’s against Dr Megan Flint’s shrieker project because he feels the scientists don’t appreciate the level of danger. However, it is quite right that Burt is all about studying your enemy and being prepared. We feel that he’s probably followed all of Rhonda’s graboid studies quite closely and would not disparage the right sort of shrieker or ass blaster research — IF it were done according to his exacting standards.
What would Megan have done if the tamed shriekers had morphed into assblasters?
Had things played out differently (i.e. shriekers did not escape and she wasn’t killed), she’d have been delighted, as it would have added a whole new level of potential opportunity to her program.
Was there ever a thought to “punish” El Blanco for eating innocent people?
No. He had the same status as animals in national parks and forests. You know they’re there. You know you’re supposed to take precautions. You get eaten, it’s on you.
Did Walter’s leg actually get bitten off by stumpy Jr?
We think so. We wrote and designed that sequence to be the most gruesome and shocking of the movie. And the protruding leg (a prosthetic by the make-up FX team) was part of it, so it looks broken and about to be bitten off as the graboid submerges.
Do the Perfection townsfolk perfectionists ever worry about El Blanco being unable to capture food and starving?
Yes. He’s a local treasure after all. Had we been able to continue the TV series, we had B-story ideas where El Blanco got sick and had to be hand-fed for a while.
